The UWM Peck School of the Arts (https://uwm.edu/arts/) is one of the largest and most comprehensive arts schools in the region. It has over 1600 majors and offers degree programs in art, dance, film, music, and theatre. The Theatre (https://uwm.edu/arts/theatre/) Department has approximately 170 majors and minors, 12 full time faculty/staff and 10-15 adjunct instructors. It offers a BA in Theatre Practices, Professional Theatre Teacher Licensure, and BFA degrees in the areas of Performance (Acting & Musical Theatre) and Production (Technical, Costumes & Stage Management). Our mission is to provide students with a lasting and meaningful theatre education. We teach through practice and engagement in public performance, community programming, interdisciplinary projects, internships, intensive training, and applied arts research. Job Summary

UW-Milwaukee Peck School invites applicants for the position of Lecturer to teach a variety of theatre related courses in the Theatre Department for upcoming academic terms.

The 15-week courses will be filled based on program need and may include Acting for Non-majors, Community Engagement, Costume Construction, Dramaturgy, Design, Improvisation, Management, Physical Theatre/Movement for Actors, Play Analysis, Playwriting, Storytelling, and Technical Theatre and Production, Theatre Education, Theatre History, Theatre & Social Change, Theatre & Popular Culture, and Voice & Speech.

Specific responsibilities will vary by course. However, general responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working collaboratively with Theatre faculty to maintain a vital curriculum; foster a sense of community and students’ individual development; and actively participate in department meetings (when appropriate).

Teaching load and specific courses will vary based on program needs.

This position is posted with the intent to create a pool of candidates in anticipation of future openings to fill part-time instructional needs. Available positions will be based on instructional needs for the upcoming academic term, and consideration for each availability will be based on the area of interest identified in the posting-specific questions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA or BFA in Theatre, or other related field, or equivalent professional experience (degree must be granted by date of hire)

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional/academic experience or higher.

  • Professional Experience in areas of Expertise

Other qualifications may be reviewed based on specific instructional needs for each term.
