School/College/Division Description

The School of Information Studies ( SOIS ) (https://uwm.edu/informationstudies/) offers several educational programs: a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology ( BSIST ); a Masters of Science in Information Science and Technology ( MSIST ) degree in partnership with the Department of Computer Science; an ALA -accredited Masters of Library and Information Science ( MLIS ); several coordinated graduate degree programs, including Health Informatics; transcript-designated concentrations within the MLIS Archival Studies, Public Libraries, Information Organization, and Information Technology; post-masters Certificates of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management and Digital Libraries; and a PhD in Information Studies. The School has a strong research faculty, more than 900 students, and state-of-the-art information technology.

SOIS faculty organizes three research groups: the Research Group for Information Retrieval, Knowledge Organization Research Group, and the Social Studies of Information Research Group.

Job Summary

The School of Information Studies ( SOIS ), the iSchool at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee ( UWM ), invites applications for a Lecturer position in Information Science & Technology. This is a 9-month instructional academic staff position (Teaching Faculty II) to teach both face-to-face and online courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level. This position offers a competitive salary and full benefits. Optional summer teaching for additional compensation may be available. This appointment will be on a yearly renewable contract, based on satisfactory performance and SOIS instructional needs.

The standard teaching load will be four classes per semester. It is expected that the incumbent must be able to start by Fall 2024.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Science/Information Technology/Computer Science, or a related field, by the start date of the appointment

  • Knowledge and proven experience in one or more of the following areas: networking, web application development (e.g., PHP ), information security, data analysis, project management, and/or machine learning applications. Other relevant information technology-related areas may also be considered.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of teaching experience in Information Science/Computer Science /Information Technology related programs

  • Demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats, including onsite and online.

    Target Salary Range $60,000 (Final offer to be determined based on experience)
