Job ID360741 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilySupplemental Employee Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code0001 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Position Overview: The Minnesota Journalism Center (MJC) seeks to hire a Research Assistant responsible for helping to support an ongoing project mapping changes in the local news ecosystem in the state over the past decade. The Research Assistant will be responsible for helping to confirm information and update an existing database of sources of local news organizations, including details about their ownership, the geographic communities where they are based and the audiences they seek to serve, as well as other details about the nature of these organizations. They will work closely with MJC researchers around publishing an interactive map of these data and other outputs related to this project for a range of audiences including academic researchers, industry stakeholders, and the engaged public. Research experience, knowledge of Minnesota's local news ecosystem, excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently are preferred. Job Responsibilities: Research Support (100%) - Support working with and organizing structured and unstructured data - Archival and independent research confirming and verifying information related to local news media - Data entry and management - Assisting researchers from the Minnesota Journalism Center around publishing outputs related to the project Position is up to 14 hours per week. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, Political Science, Sociology or a related field. - Knowledge of the local news ecosystem in the state of Minnesota - Ability to work independently and in a detail-oriented manner - Experience working with multiple types of data including geographic and census data - Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
