We will be developing multimedia stories and communications materials about climate science research and resilience efforts at the local, regional and national scale. A significant focus of this position will be one of MCAP's major sponsored projects, the , a multi-institution collaboration seeking to locate and recover the oldest ice in Antarctica spanning back at least 1.5 million years in an effort to improve our understanding of Earth's climate system. We're looking for a creative self-starter who is passionate about digital storytelling, social media, and creative climate science communication to help us craft and implement a digital content strategy for this work. We see this position as essential in our drive to grow and engage local and national audiences, connecting them with critical climate information and stories. This position will also help craft ongoing communications materials for COLDEX and MCAP. RESPONSIBILITIES Support for the MCAP team of researchers and Extension educators (40%) -Contribute to communications that support MCAP Extension programs, education, and engagement related to climate change, climate adaptation, and climate resilience. -Work with MCAP's Climate Communications Specialist to support all aspects of the team's communications storytelling strategy, including content development and audience engagement. -Remain current on social media trends and best practices as well as new and emerging platforms. -Manage and update the social media editorial calendar. -Work with MCAP colleagues and across UMN departments to create engaging social media campaigns that support MCAP's programs, events and initiatives. -Monitor and respond to reviews, inquiries and comments across MCAP platforms. -Use social data, insights, and best practices to continuously improve audience engagement and recommend new opportunities. -Develop social media kits for sponsors, staff, and partners. -In collaboration with MCAP's Climate Communications Specialist, assist in coordination and engagement with communications staff in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, Extension and University Relations. Support creative storytelling and communications coordination for COLDEX (40%) -Identify audiences and opportunities for targeted storytelling for COLDEX's key audiences (media, researchers, decision-makers and COLDEX members) -Develop and deliver stories and digital content related to the COLDEX project in alignment with the Center's Strategic Communications Plan. -Assist with website curation and content development for integrating digital content and science stories into the COLDEX website. -Work with COLDEX Managing Director to integrate stories and content into COLDEX newsletters and field updates. -Support MCAP Climate Communications Specialist and other communications staff with development of center-branded content like fact sheets, infographics, and press releases -Develop and maintain a social media and digital content strategy and calendar for COLDEX including regular assessment of optimal platforms and messages for reaching target audiences. -Assist MCAP Climate Communications Specialist and other COLDEX leads with science communication training for COLDEX students and researchers -Provide support to COLDEX team members looking to develop science communication skills such as working with the media, using social media, and other forms of science communication. Engagement with the MCAP and COLDEX Teams (20%) -Work collaboratively across the MCAP and COLDEX teams and with our partners. -Actively engage as a member of the MCAP and COLDEX teams, including regular upda es to the team about ongoing work; participation in monthly and weekly meetings, quarterly writing retreats, and other team meetings and activities; and support MCAP-wide activities, as requested. -Attend COLDEX annual all-hands meeting and annual site visit with project sponsors LOCATION OF POSITION Office space will be located on the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered for this position. TRAVEL This person will travel overnight to locations across Minnesota and the U.S. approximately 3-5 nights per quarter and day trips approximately 1-4 times per quarter. APPOINTMENT TERM & SALARY The appointment will be through June 2026 with continuation dependent on performance, results, availability of funds, and program needs. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must meet all REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, and must document them in application materials (cover letter and resume/CV). Required Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field and two (2) years of related work experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal six (6) years. -At least 2+ years of experience developing and managing social media content for a business, organization, or institution as part of a collaborative marketing team. -Experience developing a variety of digital content strategically positioned for optimal audience engagement, with an eye toward innovation and creativity -Experience with photography, photo editing, video production, and design -Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. -Comfort and familiarity using digital publishing platforms and content management systems (e.g. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Drupal, Squarespace). -Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software. -Experience maintaining effective working relationships and collaborations with colleagues, stakeholders, and communities, including those that may have diverse missions, goals, cultures, and backgrounds. -Experience working in a deadline-driven environment -Demonstrated ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Preferred Qualifications: -Master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field and 2 years of related work experience or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience. -Professional experience in communicating about climate change and climate science -Experience with graphic design. -A proven ability using technology to enhance communication resources and stakeholder engagement -Experience giving creative/editorial feedback. -Familiarity with collaborative project management software such as Asana or ClickUp -Experience with culturally responsive and intercultural science communication. -Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Drupal, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. -Commitment to ongoing professional development.
