Fairview Health Services Director of Data Analytics - National Pharmacy in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

The Director of Data Analytics provides leadership for the planning, development, and implementation of analytic and information technology solutions to support its Fairview Pharmacy teams. This leader is responsible for comprehensive understanding of health system pharmacy delivery data needs, and solutions to efficiently deliver actionable information. This position will also be responsible for effectively interfacing with leaders from internal stakeholder groups (e.g., ambulatory pharmacy - business office – revenue integrity - operational finance analytics – health plan payer relations - operations, finance, inpatient, administration etc.). Additionally, this position requires advanced knowledge of the healthcare and pharmacy industry and data needs facing care teams and operations. This leader will also engage with external health system partners and customers to support our National Pharmacy strategy.

This leader is a key stakeholder responsible for delivering on reporting, visualization, and other analytic solutions in partnership Fairview Pharmacy leadership, care teams, and other aspects of the organization. The scope of this role and its associated responsibilities will be important across all aspects of Fairview as the demand for data and analytics rapidly increases, and our organizational data-driven culture matures. This leader will provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for the development of IT products for National Pharmacy and will be responsible for managing the performance of outsourced work to vendors.

Responsibilities Job Description

  • Partner with operational stakeholders to understand existing reporting, visualization, and other analytic solutions and opportunities, and identify potential areas of improvement.

  • Understand analytic solutions and how they span or interact with the specific viewpoints of the individual areas of the business. Solutions should be developed and maintained to maximize the whole while allowing for necessary variation.

  • Educate and influence stakeholders to enable timely data collection, analysis, and modeling outputs, resulting in a proactive results-oriented environment that drive innovative strategies and solutions around value-based care.

  • Provide direction to the IT Data Technologies and Applications teams to ensure partnership with associated stakeholders to strategic priorities and objectives across analytics and other technologies.

  • Ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of clinical data assets including enhancements and upgrades to ensure optimal reliability and performance.

  • Provide direction including both direct and indirect leadership to teams working across finance, clinical operations, information technology including applications teams, and analytics in a highly matrixed model.

  • Develop and maintain an organization of high performing people through effective hiring, coaching and performance/talent management processes.

  • Influence and implement a resource strategy based on business need, scope of work, cost, and skill requirements.-

  • Foster a collaborative, success-oriented team environment where resources are empowered and accountable.

  • Participate in the annual budget and financial planning process for assigned organization, technical assets, and related projects. Participate in and bring subject matter expertise to the prioritization and planning of analytics and technology solutions to meet and maximize the annual investment budget and expected deliverables. Responsible for managing the interactions with vendors and external payers. Associated work includes effective identification of potential solutions, problem management, as well as helping with negotiations and contracts.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, practices, and methodologies. Participate in the continuous improvement of methodologies, practices and standards as required. Hold teams accountable for following and implementing Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology, ITIL and quality management framework for projects. Write and/or revise system design documentation and operations documentation to include providing required input into operation support manuals and user guides.

  • Engage with external health system partners and customers to support our National Pharmacy strategy

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for the development of IT products for National Pharmacy

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent.

  • Pharm D

  • Master degree in health informatics and information management or equivalent

  • 5+ years experience as a data analytics pharmacist

  • Advanced degree in data analytics

  • Epic certification including clarity data model for EPIC care ambulatory and Willow inpatient and cogito

  • At least eight years of previous related healthcare experience, and an understanding of data and analytics programs.

  • Reporting and analytic experience with clinical data including EHR clinical data expertise and expertise in data visualization.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • MBA, MIS, or MHA

  • Prior experience working with Epic or other EHR system including associated clinical data, SQL and statistical modeling tools, data warehouse and other logical data stores (Universes and datamarts), reporting and analytic tools and techniques, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, various financial and other enterprise resource planning platforms, and other administrative application platforms.
