Michael Coughlin and Vuk Mandic. The appointment start date is flexible, but September 1, 2024 would be preferred. The appointment is for one year, with possibility of annual renewals depending on availability of funding.The research would focus on low-latency searches for gravitational waves and searches for a stochastic gravitational-wave background with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), as well as on technology development for future interferometer generations. A background in gravitational-wave physics is not required. Primary duties include the following: 50%: Research in the development and application of algorithms for gravitational-wave data analysis. 20% Supervision of graduate students, technicians, and undergraduates participating in this research 20%: Communicate and coordinate with other personnel involved in the research, including those from non-computing disciplines. 10%: Research in a related discipline of interest to the post-doctoral fellow. Other duties of a similar scope as assigned. Qualifications Required. PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or other applicable discipline by beginning date of appointment. Preferred: Demonstrated skills (or ability to learn quickly) in any of the following: programming (especially Python), data science, machine learning, and statistics. Previous experience analyzing gravitational-wave or other large astronomical data sets. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong collaboration skills. Strong desire to learn new computing platforms.
