The postdoctoral scholar is being recruited to develop new analytical pipelines and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry data processing tools for research on marine metal and organo-nutrient speciation. There will also be opportunities to participate in oceanographic expeditions. Our research team engages in oceanographic field work and laboratory-based studies and has a central goal of understanding the sources and fate of organic forms of nutrient and trace metals across the global ocean. Our lab develops mass spectrometry based metallomic/metabolomic analyses and works closely with state-of-the-art national user facilities (EMSL, NHMFL, JGI), DOE National Laboratories, GEOTRACES, and other national/international academic institutions. Our collaborative team provides excellent opportunities to combine field work and laboratory studies with advanced chemical analyses. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in analytical chemistry (especially liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry) and familiarity with programming languages (Python, R) as a major focus of the project will include the analysis of large multi-modal mass spectrometry data sets. The applicant should have a track record of research productivity and an ability to work independently. The Postdoctoral Scholar should also be able to collaborate with others and function as a member of a research team. Potential for partial self-funding is welcome but not essential. The position provides a competitive stipend and health insurance for up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance. 75% - Laboratory Research and mentoring of junior researchers. 25% - Literature Research and Writing Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Ph.D. in chemistry, geosciences, oceanography, or a similar area. PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS: - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. - Expertise in liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. - Expertise with python programming.
