Other working days can be remote or in person. Primary Duties The candidate will conduct research for the University of Minnesota turfgrass science program working on turfgrass ecology along with science communication. (40%) Lawn assessments: As part of the NSF-funded MSP LTER project, the candidate will coordinate and complete up to 80 residential lawn assessments each year. This will include communication with homeowners, data entry and curation, and help with data analysis. (25%): Program coordination: The candidate will help coordinate funded grant projects, including grant reporting, scheduling collaborative meetings, outreach to stakeholders, and other needed activities. The candidate will also serve as a liaison between the turfgrass team and funding agencies. (25%) Science communication: The candidate will be expected to coordinate outreach from the UMN turfgrass science program through email newsletters, social media, blog posts, websites, trade publications, speaking events, field days, and other means. The candidate will also disseminate research results through publication in academic journals, papers, conferences, and outreach presentations. Additionally, the candidate will build networks through interaction with collaborators and through attendance of conferences. (5%) Grant writing: The candidate will be expected to assist with relevant grant proposal submissions. (5%) Leadership and Mentoring: The candidate will attend regular group lab meetings and may be asked to lead group lab meetings. The candidate will also be expected to supervise and mentor undergraduate researchers and interns as needed. More Information The Turfgrass Science program at the University of Minnesota is part of the Department of Horticultural Science in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences. At our Turfgrass, Research, Outreach and Education (TROE) Center on the St. Paul campus we conduct research on turfgrass breeding and genetics, roadside turfgrass selection and management, low-input turfgrasses for cold climates, and general turfgrass management for various turf systems including golf.
