Program Description: The laboratory studies the immune response in the central nervous system during neurological diseases- neuroimmunology. One area of research in the laboratory is the study of microglia during neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and neuropathic pain. The laboratory uses a virus-induced mouse model of multiple sclerosis as well as the EAE mouse model. The laboratory uses several different animal models of chronic pain. The focus of these studies is determining the role of microglia in disease and then developing therapeutic strategies to alter microglia functions during disease. This position will also be part of an NIH-funded project that examines the role of exosomes secreted by microglia in the pathogenesis of disease. The laboratory is located in the health sciences research area on campus providing many opportunities for collaboration and participation in focused research groups. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates will be productive, self-motivated individuals with the ability to think critically. Experience with animal experiments, immunological assays, molecular biology, imaging techniques, and cell culture is preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are required.
