The Liquid General Finishes Technical Manager is a member of the North America General Industrial R&D technology leadership team and is responsible for leading liquid coatings product and platform maintenance and development activities, as well as sale support for this business segment. General Finishes encompasses sub-segments, such as Building Products, Energy, Sign and Medical Devices. The Technical Manager will lead and grow lab teams both in one or more of the NA GI labs and collaborate with other members of the NA GI Leadership Team on projects applicable to the US, Canada, and Mexico for regional and global customers. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Manage lab activities to using the available FTE lab hours to prioritize and align with the GI business's strategic goals by championing and driving best practices using the Navigator project and portfolio management tools. Work collaboratively with Sales, Marketing and Product Management to support and secure new business. Work with the GI commercial team to maintain the General Finishes core customer base. Partner with Product Management, Purchasing, and PCG Raw Materials team to support raw material consolidation and cost saving initiatives. Develops key customer and supplier relationships to support existing business and new business growth. Leads a workplace culture for innovative solutions, execution excellence, and continuous improvement in a collaborative environment. Oversee people development using performance management, succession planning, and individual development planning tools in HR Cloud. Holds the technical team accountable for implementing and achieving their goals and objectives. Builds and strengthens General Industrial lab team through mentoring, training, talent acquisition, and attrition. Work collaboratively with the other onsite lab teams to foster a culture of mutual respect through diversity, equity, and inclusion. Oversee technical issues and identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement. Provide technical expertise and support to technical team including developing and implementing standard procedures, technical training, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Collaborate in cross-functional teams, including quality control, production, engineering, and product management to increase production efficiency, reduce cost, and improve product quality. Collect and analyze data on project metrics, to identify areas for improvement. Strong technical aptitude on coating formulations for both solvent and water borne technologies. Strong foundation in experimental design and statistical analysis, to draw conclusions and solve problems. Determine and obtain capital resources needed to support business goals. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. Minimum 10 years industry experience in the development of formulated coatings, plastics or inks products and polymer development or materials science and intellectual property management Laboratory management of teams greater than 6 people Strong strategic perspective and ability to deal with complex requirements and set priorities Structured, data-based rational thinker and strong execution skills. Strong market knowledge, customer experience, and demonstrated relationships with Sales and Marketing groups. Knowledge of related Regional markets, product stewardship, and regulatory requirements. Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent project management and problem-solving skills. English Speaking, strong communication skills, both orally and written. Technical understanding and knowledge in industrial coatings chemistry Coatings formulation skills Coatings application testing General computer skills - word, excel, powerpoint, email PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Six Sigma practical knowledge and experiences desired.
