Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute Undergraduate Research Assistant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has a current opening for a part-time Undergraduate Research Assistant to work 10-20 hours per week support the research being conducted by Drs. Anne Frosch and Kristina Burrack at Hennepin Healthcare. POSITION SUMMARY: The Undergraduate Research Assistant will assist research staff with projects, maintain adequate laboratory supplies, maintain laboratory equipment, and perform data entry. This position may also assist with the following: maintain specimen repository, process blood specimens, perform specimen processing/storage/shipping functions, perform laboratory bench research analysis and experiments on specimens, including techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and more. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintain adequate supplies and laboratory facilities. Maintain an inventory of and order supplies as needed (e.g., Purchases & Expenses log) Organize and clean laboratory, including dishwashing and autoclaving, and associated storeroom Upkeep of equipment (e.g., liquid nitrogen supply, freezers, eyewash stations) Maintain oversight of an internal specimen bio-repository (freezer and LN tank) Catalog specimens, including tracking and pulling for shipping Develop and improve organizational and tracking processes for bio-repository. Perform routine electronic check on refrigerator/freezer temperature systems Assist with study visit procedures and other protocol directed tasks Maintain accurate and timely study records, including reconciling data queries. Assist with completion of CRFs and data entry into the study database. Laboratory result evaluation and entry into the medical record Be responsive to study sponsors and/or monitors and maintain quality assurance. Become familiar and skilled with necessary software, including but not limited to, MS Word and Excel, electronic medical record (EPIC), REDCap, and software used by study sponsors. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Education/Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be completion of some college and three (3) months' experience in a related area and/or in research. Skill, Knowledge & Ability: Requires interaction with a diverse population. Knowledge of medical terminology, the collection and processing of lab specimens, and clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, and standards. Must have the ability to follow standard operating procedures and techniques for a medical laboratory when performing tests. Ability to work with minimal supervision and be highly organized and efficient. Possess good manual dexterity to handle specimens. Ability to maintain strict adherence to research protocols. Must maintain appropriate training/certification as required by varied research protocols. Must have knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and be responsive to customer needs. Demonstrated knowledge of PC's and software applications. Displays high standards of attendance and punctuality.
