WSP USA Vice President, Civil Engineer in Minneapolis, Minnesota

This Opportunity

WSP is initiating a search for a Vice President-Civil Engineer for our Transportation and Infrastructure Group in our Minnesota Office to advance our client care program, lead strategic pursuits and serve as a senior project manager for major projects.

The successful candidate will drive MnDOT and other transportation agency client growth including acting as pursuit manager leading strategic pursuits. This position will be focused on positioning WSP as the preferred and trusted choice for our transportation clients, employees, and business partners. In this position, you will passionately support the Minnesota office leadership team through WSP’s strategically focused four pillars of success: People & Culture, Clients, Operational Excellence, and Expertise. You will be an external face of WSP leveraging local and national resources to deliver significant value to our clients. This individual will have significant involvement and input in the overall strategic plan to grow the local transportation practice and increase our technical delivery skills, project management practices and business development activities.

A major part of this role includes developing, implementing, and managing projects and strategies from the early pursuit planning stages through the scoping, development, design, and eventual project delivery. Reporting to the Local Business Line Leader, this position will focus on growth and expansion of WSP’s client base and will play a significant role in delivering all aspects of profit and loss, including revenue generation, project margin, project staffing, workload forecasting, project delivery, staff utilization, quality and safety.

  • Holds pursuit teams accountable in executing pursuit strategies and completing assigned action items in the execution of the pursuit strategy.

  • Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging WSP’s full suite of business lines and service offerings.

  • Deploys our unique expertise and perspective through our extended reach across regions, districts, offices, and the globe to foster new and innovative delivery and create value for clients.

  • Drives the performance of the business to strategically grow our market share and ensure WSP is the preferred provider for our clients.

  • Supports project teams by conducting client audits to identify delivery challenges.

  • Provides civic and industry leadership within the local market and to local professional organizations.

Operation Excellence

  • Develops and executes local growth and business development strategies in collaboration with Local, District, Region, and National Business Line Leaders

  • Supports Local Business Leader in the evaluation of the portfolio of transportation projects and quality of the work performed by local staff for clients and other WSP offices. Focuses on and inspires excellence in delivery of every project.

  • Manages project financial and operational performance contributing to local business operational and financial metrics: revenue, profitability, growth, overhead expenditure control, project performance, pursuit management, recruiting and retention, client satisfaction, staff utilization, safety, and other metrics.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation planning, or closely related transportation field. Advance degree is a plus.

  • 12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design, and project management with a strong focus in the transportation market.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience - personally accountable, persistent, and goal-oriented.

  • MN engineering license required; multi-state preferred.

  • Extensive experience with the Minnesota Department of Transportation and with local county and municipal transportation projects.

  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts, including: MnDOT, county, municipal, private, and business partners in local area.

  • Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to internal and external client service.

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, and craft approaches to challenging problems.

  • Ability to translate complicated technical information into messaging in support of proposal messaging.

  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
