JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician A
DEPARTMENT: Wastewater
SALARY: $28.00 Hourly
HOURS: 7:30am - 4:00pm
DEFINITION:
To perform a variety of skilled mechanical repairs, installations, overhauls, and specialized work in servicing, maintaining, and rebuilding a variety of mechanical equipment and facilities; to operate power-driven trucks,small and large front-end loaders, tools, and equipment. Performs general cleaning and janitorial work and other various job assignments associated with plant operation and upkeep. Reports to and accepts assignments from the Maintenance Manager and/or plant management. Works independently or with other Wastewater personnel. Required to be reasonably available for emergency overtime.

Must have sufficient knowledge and dexterity to independently and safely operate:
- Pumps and pumping equipment
- Lathe
- Drill press
- Hydraulic and arbor presses
- Oxygen/Acetylene torch
- Hydraulic jacks
- Compressor equipment
- Lawn equipment
- Arc welder
- Heavy vehicle and equipment operation
- Pipe threader
- Multimeter/Power meter
- Assorted hand and power tools including but not limited to portable grinder, reciprocating saw, power drills, circular saw, portable band saw, pipe wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and other assorted tools.
- Rigging equipment
- Computer
JOB LOCATION:
Maintenance duties are performed in and around the buildings, structures, and grounds of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, lift stations, the Biosolids Facility and garage. May be required to work at other locations for the Utility or City.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, and climb high elevations repeatedly and for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to work in enclosed areas or environments, walk on metal grates, slippery surfaces, and narrow passageways. Must have good balance and visual depth perception. Must wear approved safety shoes or boots.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work alone and/or with others in the performance of maintenance responsibilities in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to work during the day or night or in other dark conditions, around operating equipment, and open tanks both full and empty. Dangerous chemicals are present in the workplace including sodium hypochlorite, sodium bisulfite, ferrous chloride, and other solvents, acids, and cleaning agents. Work is frequently performed in wet, dusty, dirty, odorous, and noisy areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Work independently or with other personnel in the performance of their duties, according to the instructions given. Maintain, repair, and rebuild equipment associated,but not limited to:
- Influent Preliminary Treatment Processes including screening and grit removal
- Primary Clarification Process
- Secondary Treatment Process
- Anaerobic Digestion Process
- Gravity Belt Dewatering Process
- Chlorination-Dechlorination Process
- Lift Stations
- Biosolids Dewatering Facility
- HVAC and ancillary plant operations
Maintenance of equipment associated with these processes may include but are not limited to, repairing and rebuilding pumps and piping. Repairing and troubleshooting electric equipment, motors, and automated processes. The maintenance of automated systems may require troubleshooting and programming of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using ladder logic or equivalent code.
May assist in the loading and unloading of process chemicals.
May be required to assist in coverage for Biosolids Dewatering Facility.
Must observe all safety rules and procedures in the performance of duties.
Must be available for rotational snow plowing duties requiring on-call, pre-shift plowing.

Must be able to pick up and/or deliver parts, supplies, and equipment. Call vendors for product information and/or cost. Take inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment. Keep vehicle maintenance logs. Assist in updating preventative maintenance manuals.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to effectively communicate with management and wastewater employees orally and in writing. Ability to use basic math skills and basic reading and writing skills. Must have basic computer skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and legible records. Ability to use a tape measure and other measuring devices with either decimal and or fraction. Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematic diagrams. Ability to read blueprints. Ability to locate information found in various operational and maintenance manuals. Operate all wastewater motorized vehicles and equipment safely. Understand the safety hazards involved in wastewater treatment. Considerable knowledge of the vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant. Basic knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures involved in wastewater treatment. Good mechanical aptitude and powers of observation. Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) requirements.
