Akima Drafter III in Montrose, Colorado

Drafter III shall provide drafting support services which may include electrical schematic and wiring diagrams, system switching and single line diagrams, civil, mechanical, and architectural diagrams, as well as many miscellaneous diagrams, sketches and plans. Drafting will be predominantly Computer-Aided-Drafting (CAD) but some manual “board” drafting and revision will also be required to be managed and revised.

This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Montrose, Colorado.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings. Drawings or models include complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray

  • Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to draw land contours or to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, etc.

  • Works from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments

  • Selects required information from computer programs, and internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides

  • Independently resolves most of the problems encountered

  • Supervisor or design originator may suggest methods of approach or provide advice on unusually difficult problems

  • Prepares complete sets of drawings of test equipment to be manufactured from layouts, models, or sketches

  • Several cross-sectional and subassembly drawings are required. From information supplied by the design originator and from technical handbooks and manuals, this operator describes dimensions, tolerances, fits, fabrication techniques, and standard parts to use in manufacturing the equipment

  • From electronic schematics, information as to maximum size, and manuals giving dimensions of standard parts, determines the arrangement and prepares drawing of printed circuit boards

  • From precedents, drafting standards, and established practices, prepares final construction drawings for floodgates, navigation locks, dams, bridges, culverts, levees, channel excavations, dikes and berms, prepares boring profiles, typical cross-sections, and land profiles; and delineates related topographical details as required

  • Prepares final drawings for street paving and widening or for water and sewer lines having complex trunk lines; reduces field notes and calculates true grades. From engineering designs, lays out plan, profile and detail appurtenances required; and notifies supervisor of conflicting details in design. Excludes drafter performing work of similar difficulty to that described at this level but who provides support for a variety of organizations that have widely differing functions or requirements

  • Facilitates manual “board” drafting requests

  • Drafts electronically using computer-aided engineering (CAE) techniques per requests

  • Drafts both new drawings and revisions to existing drawings from rough sketch, marked print, or electronic copy

  • Provides checking and analyzing of details, dimensions and completeness of drawings to be drafted

  • Completes assignments in accordance with priority and due dates assigned by WAPA task managers

  • Uses latest version of AutoCAD drafting software, WAPA’s Auto LISP-based drafting enhancement software, and symbols/LISP/template directory as approved by WAPA’s HQ

  • Adheres to the WAPA/RMR standards manuals

  • Control and Tracking of Drawings in the Drafting System and utilize WAPA’s Drawing Information System (DIS) for requesting and maintaining revision levels

  • Tracks work requests and the status of drafting projects using an appropriate tracking system as approved by the COR or CO, throughout the process from requestor submittal to final archival

  • Tracks electronic and physical location of all drawings in the drafting process

  • Coordinates filing, storage and retrieval of both manual and electronic drawings locally and through HQ

  • Archives completed drawings per WAPA standards

  • Operates and supports AutoCAD on WAPA LAN/WAN system

  • Maintains the WAPA RMR electronic drawing library

  • Maintains, supports, and operates associated plotters and printers including software and drivers

  • Maintains, supports, and manages disc space management and file transfers on local and remote servers

  • Supports limited testing of new drafting products – software and hardware

  • Attends Joint Area Computer Aided Engineering System Support (JACAESS) committee meetings when required

  • Maintains complete records on the status of all incoming and outgoing work and the location of all drawings

  • Performs drawing research and assist RMR personnel in the research of data and document gathering associated with the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of RMR facilities

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen able to pass a customer background check prior to starting

  • Associate’s degree (or additional 2 years’ experience in field)

  • Current and valid U.S. driver’s license

  • When needed, must be able to drive on occasion to local site to deliver drawings

  • 3 years of experience using AutoCAD software

  • Experience with preparing complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings

  • Experience with using mathematical formulas to draw land contours or to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material

Pay Range

$25.40
