*Where You Will Work *

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

This position will report to the Site Divisional Managers, and have dotted line relationship to Site Superintendents and Quality Leaders. The Sr Quality Analyst is a full-time change agent who manages process improvement efforts using Quest for Zero and Six Sigma methodology in their area of assignment. They will utilize Six Sigma tools, project management and facilitation, as well as being responsible for training others in Six Sigma tools to expedite ourQuest for Zero at Workeffort. They will help identify, prioritize, and manage projects to meet strategic goals, provide management with project status updates and feedback on key process objectives, and act as a lead in the identification and deployment of best practices within and across the business units.

  • Assist divisional managers in the identification, prioritization, planning development, coordination, support, and execution of high impact (immediate and long term) improvement plans for effective and sustainable cost savings.

  • Able to research and analyze diversified data to draw valid conclusions.

  • Skilled in managing large/complex engineering projects.

  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.

  • Be a thought leader and a change agent, leading projects that will enable their division to continually improve processes by identifying, sharing, implementing the best practices within and across sites.

  • Act as team leaders of various projects and participate on teams implementing LEAN and Six Sigma improvement processes.

  • Analyze data using Six Sigma tools and prepare recommendations and reports to drive high-impact process improvement efforts.

  • Utilize Project Management Methodology to manage and execute projects.

  • Assist in Institutionalizing Quest for Zero at Work by establishing and managing process metrics and data analysis.

  • Develop approaches for measuring performance against customer requirements.

  • Train staff in their direct area of influence in quest for zero tools to institutionalize QFZ@Work.

  • Effectively utilize and manage internal & external resources that are not in your direct control in order to drive process improvements.

  • Position requires approximately 20% travel.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a BS/BA degree in Engineering, Science or Business from an accredited college or university, AND

  • Two-plus (2+) years of experience as a Process Improvement Specialist or Green Belt in mining or manufacturing in a Six Sigma driven environment, AND

  • Two-plus (2+) years of experience in leading projects as a Project Engineer/Manager

  • Knowledge of and proficient in the use of Six Sigma/statistical software such as Minitab

  • Knowledge of and proficient in the use of professional PC software such as MS Excel, Project and Visio

  • Willingness to learn and excellent leadership, communication, presentation, training, team facilitation, and interpersonal capability, combined with an ability to work cross functionally

  • Able to effectively utilize and manage internal and external resources that are not in your direct control in order drive process improvements

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, and a team-player with sound negotiation skills

  • Must have problem solving skills

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills

  • Proven understanding of business processes

  • Ability to research and analyze diverse data to draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to work with general office equipment such as a personal computer, MS Office Suite software, facsimile machines and photocopier

  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Preferred

  • Green Belt certification

  • Demonstrated ability to drive and improve results in a support role. Helping key areas in Morenci mine create, improve, and restore processes directly related to safety results.

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret data and form a story highlighting opportunity around our management system.

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate with varying audiences, from front line employee to VP.

  • Capability to communicate and simplify Freeport QMS system for safety, operations, and other key stakeholders

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.

  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday.

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently  $79,000-$109,000 . This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
