Director, Regional Finance
Location: Morristown, NJ(Preferred) or Chester, PA (Hybrid work arrangement is possible)
Reports to: Vice President, Finance
Relevant Experience Required: Minimum 10 Years
Travel : About 10%(May be more depending on location)
Education: Bachelors Degree ( Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field). MBA/CPA preferred

About the role

The Director, Regional Finance will be an integral member of the Covanta Finance team responsible for directing and overseeing the operations finance function for one of the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) regions. This leadership role is a business partner to the Region 3 Regional Operations Manager (ROM), and Facility Managers and supporting monthly close, financial planning, analysis and management reporting activities for overall P&L performance at the facility and region level. This position manages a team of 5 professionals working remotely at Covanta facilities.

The position will report to the Vice President, Finance and will entail:

Oversee the development of monthly forecasting, annual budget, and long term planning

Oversee the preparation and review of monthly flash reporting (actuals and forecast) and Quarterly Business Review (QBR) financial analysis and presentation to leadership

Involved in overseeing planning expenses for outages and construction projects, and understanding the financial implications of these activities

Collaborate with ROMs, Facility Managers and Facility Controllers to develop plans and business cases for growth, investment and cost reduction opportunities

Collaborate with ROMs, Facility Managers and Facility Controllers to understand the impact of operational decisions and results on financial performance

Assess financial trends and budgets / forecasts and provide actionable insights

Present financial analysis and recommendations to region leaders and senior management by utilizing analysis prepared by their team

Identify and assess risks & opportunities to ensure financial objectives are met

Collaborate with the shared services accounting teams to understand financial reporting results compared to forecasts and identify if adjustments required for regional WtE facility financial reporting

Performing ad hoc analysis / special projects that may arise in a typical regional operations finance organization

Education, Skills, and Experience

10+ years of directly related professional experience with increasing level of responsibility

Requires Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA / CPA preferred

Requires experience with business partnering and supervising a team

Proficient working knowledge of ERP systems (Preferred: Peoplesoft) and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) tools (Preferred: Oracle Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service or Hyperion; SmartView Adhoc reporting)

Ability to travel to regional sites and facilities in NJ, PA, MD, & VA - as required (approximately 20%)

Position based in Morristown, New Jersey, however would consider Delaware Valley, PA location (regional hub)

Experience in overseeing strategic and tactical management of field finance teams in monthly close, financial planning, forecasting and management reporting

Ability to understand the impact of changes in business operations on financials and investigate corrective action if required

Experience leading business case development for new capital projects and other investments

Strong analytical skills, problem solving, creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment in order to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

Ability to interact confidently with and present to all levels of the organization / management

The ability to deliver high quality work under pressure of tight deadlines

Knowledge of general accounting principles

Strong computer skills, including high proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint

Self-motivated, high energy, effective at working collaboratively to deliver exceptional results
