The Research Analyst is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business. Requires basic commercial awareness. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family.

In this role, you’re expected to :

  • The Analyst will be the single point of contact from the Mumbai office for the Head of Global Quantitative Research based in London and other regional teams.

  • Manage the workflow while working with the team of four Associates on quant products, long term projects and client requests.

  • Assist in the design and implementation of equity quantitative models and databases.

  • Assist in the collection and / or creation of proprietary data sets.

  • Fully understand the content, features and functionality of Citi’s proprietary research database.

  • Assist in the design, maintenance and distribution of customized data screens to Citi’s institutional client base, equity sales and trading colleagues.

  • Interact with Institutional Clients.

  • Attend industry conferences and speak to industry contacts.

  • Develop financial models and valuation techniques.

  • Establish yourself as an expert.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • At least 8 years of relevant industry experience.

  • Strong quantitative background with exceptional analytical detail.

  • A strong understanding of financial accounting and ratio construction is required.

  • Experience within an equity research environment. This may include experience as an analyst or associate in a sector team or at a macro level (e.g. Quant).

  • An awareness of financial accounting issues and market operations in various regional markets advantageous.

  • Distill research into an investable thesis and write report/note.

  • Market ideas to internal constituents and clients via phone calls and client marketing trips.

Skills

  • Technical Skills

  • Very strong knowledge of statistical packages such as Splus/R, Matlab, SQL and other programming languages such as VBA.

  • Strong knowledge of relational database structures required.

  • Superior Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Knowledge of vendor platforms (Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, Factset, etc.)

  • Passion for numerical analysis, product creation and client servicing.

  • Personal Characteristics/Leadership Skills

  • Proven track record in managing small team of analysts; Must consider the role as being ‘first among equals’ and willing to be involved in the day-to-day workflow of the team.

  • Ability to motivate staff to achieve team and research-wide goals.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Self-starter; used to working in a team environment and who has the ambition to progress his/her career within equity research.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (English).

  • Ability to set goals and successfully work to deadlines.

Education:

  • Graduate/Post Graduate in Economics, Math, Engineering, Computer Science or similar
