The Payroll Specialist works under general supervision. Assists in the preparation of payrolls and helps to ensure proper payment of wages and salaries by using the Colleges computerized payroll system to correctly and accurately process salaries and reported hours worked along with the appropriate deductions and withholdings. Performs general bookkeeping, recordkeeping and general office duties.

Daily Operations

  • Reviews time records, payroll action forms (PAFs), new hire documentation and other documents and checks for completeness and accuracy
  • Trains new approvers on timesheet and leave approvals, assists employees with accessing and completing their time online and communicates with departments and individuals to complete their time. General overall assistance to employees and college campus regarding payroll issues.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled audits of payroll records. Run payroll related reports to review for accuracy and make corrections. Prepares salary advances, manual checks, enters or updates direct deposits, processes garnishments; enters certain deductions; prepares requests for disbursements for various deductions.
  • General office duties - recordkeeping, answering calls, greeting customers, filing, handling employee complaints and resolve discrepancies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping methods and procedures
  • A basic general office and administrative skillset
  • A working knowledge of Word and Excel required
  • Ability to relate to others to establish and maintain good working relationships

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency and the minimum of three (3) years of payroll experience involving some financial recordkeeping, administrative, bookkeeping, or related duties is required.
