Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY

To provide health physics support for clinical and research activities at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and Vanderbilt University (VU) involving ionizing radiation.

.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

-Provide health physics support for radiation therapy patient program (Lu-177 Therapies, I-131 MIBG, I-125 & Cs-131 brachytherapy, Y-90 microspheres)

-Lead the decontamination of radiation therapy rooms

-Perform audits of clinical and research areas -

-Provide radiation support to clinical offsites

-Review research protocols and perform hazard assessment for these protocols

-Assist with radiation safety databases Develop standard operating procedures for health physics activities

-Perform effluent evaluations (sanitary sewer, NESHAPs, etc.)

-Develop and deliver radiation safety-related training as needed

-Assist with the radiation dosimetry monitoring program

-Assist with X-ray inspection program

-Perform shielding designs and shielding evaluations

-Assist with the radioactive waste program

-Other duties as assigned

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

• Safety (Intermediate): The knowledge of and attentiveness to safety as well as compliance with the rules regarding safety.

• Computer/Electronic Knowledge (Intermediate): Knowledge of the use of applications and tasks on computers and other electronic devices as part of regular work responsibilities. It includes knowledge of software such as word processors, spreadsheets, text editors, and graphics.

• Documentation & Writing Skills (Novice): Demonstrates knowledge, training, and experience in documentation and writing to provide high quality products that will engage an audience and speak for the organization. Delivers documentation services in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others.

• Project Management (Novice): Planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.

• Communication (Intermediate): Clearly, effectively and respectfully communicates to employees or customers.

• Data Analysis (Novice): The ability to analyze data in an accurate manner.
