Amazon Freight External (AFE) is a fast-growing startup at Amazon, and we are looking for passionate owners to shape the direction of the business. Amazon Freight blends advanced technology with a network of 50,000+ Amazon trailers, building on the world class network and freight services currently used to operate Amazon’s own freight movements. A critical component of our growth is the need for improving credit management in AFE, particularly as AFE expands globally to higher debt-risk geos.

The Amazon Freight Credit team is seeking a well-rounded business manager with strong industry experience (preferable Freight/Logistics) to manage 3 critical areas of financial management- Credit management, Aging Receivables management and Write-offs. An ideal candidate will lead credit performance of AFE portfolio and lead AFE’s credit strategy by co-working with Sales, FinOps, Finance, Credit Analysts and SalesOps. The Sr. Credit & AR Manager will be responsible for managing the performance of this credit portfolio by leading strategic initiatives. This role will contribute to building out the platform by providing thought leadership on new data sources to use, risk indicators to consider, define processes and technology solutions that scale and effective mitigating responses.

The successful candidate will be a thought leader who can help build and scale a best-in-class credit management and Aging Revenue management program. The ideal candidate should possess strong credit management skills, directly support continuous improvement initiatives, be highly analytical, resourceful, Customer-focused and team oriented, with outstanding communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders. As a Sr. Credit & AR Manager, you evaluate trends in the data including external market data, and internal payment and collections history to determine risk. You will also actively participate with our tech partners to design tools, analyzing key trends, and leveraging business intelligence to tell the story behind the data.

You are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment. You prioritize effectively while delivering results across simultaneous initiatives and timelines. Gaining deep understanding of Amazon Freight’s business, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve business decision making based on your knowledge of credit risk.

Key job responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Within the Amazon Freight Credit team, a successful candidate must have strong finance and business acumen and analytical skills, will support and report to a Sr. Manager, focusing on credit/risk management with the goal of creating reporting, analysis, leadership guidance, process improvement and strategic decision making for credit and monitoring Aging Receivables and Write-off. This job will require exceptional communication, analytical and strategic skills while having the ability to work independently in an ambiguous environment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Managing end-to-end credit strategy across customer lifecycle and through economic cycle (recessions) and other shocks

  2. Assist in defining policies and product features to support credit decisioning and monitoring

  3. Develop processes, mechanisms, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to grow efficiently and in a scalable way

  4. Identify, monitor, and communicate the right metrics to measure decision quality and portfolio health

  5. Personally, performs financial statement and industry analysis providing recommendation of customer credit risk rating to Amazon's business partners

  6. Aids the Sr. manager in the creation of credit models to assess risk of Amazon Freight's customers by channel

  7. Collaborate with offshore front-line teams to bring the voice of the customer and align on ideal credit monitoring processes

  8. Prepare and present documents for business reviews with stakeholders including weekly business reviews by channel

  9. Work with/monitor an offshore team who evaluate credit applications – analyzing data from financial statements, credit reference agencies, application forms and other third-party sources to arrive at fast, fair, and appropriate credit decisions.

  10. Own relationships with account receivables team and financial operation team to establish and manage loss mitigation and recovery processes for Aging Receivables and reducing Write-Offs.

  1. Relentlessly focus on improving our process accuracy and knowing the levers to pull for continuous improvement of process and influence business cost effectiveness.

  2. Work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.

  3. Involvement in recurring business reviews, creating and owning reporting and bridging

  4. Adhoc deep dives and document writing ownership

About the team

This a new role on our team. You will innovate a lot of processes and reporting and you would be responsible for driving on day-to-day basis. We are in startup mode and growing fast.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience managing accounting/finance process improvement and/or technology projects with aggressive schedules

  • MBA in finance, accounting or related field

  • Knowledge of SQL, Perl, Unix/Linux, Visual Basic or other programming languages, Knowledge of at least one data visualization product (Tableau, Looker, Amazon QuickSight, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization

    1. 3+ years of solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits) experience
