Northwestern State University (NSU) seeks applications for a nine-month, tenure track, Assistant Professor in Dance beginning August 12, 2024. NSU, a NAST accredited Theatre program, offers a BFA in Dance, Production + Design, and Musical Theatre and a BS in Theatre with a concentration in Performance & Directing. The successful candidate will teach the following courses for all required dance majors; Modem, Choreography, Improvisation, and Jazz. Other assignments could include areas of expertise that support the department's curriculum including but not limited to; Ballet, Dance History & Criticism I & Il, Dance & Technology, Partnering, Hip Hop, World Dance, Laban Movement Analysis, and a somatic practice. Other job duties include choreography for dance concerts, functioning as a positive collaborator with other faculty, serving on departmental and university committees, actively engaging in creative and/or scholarly research, attending recruiting events as well as mentoring and advising students. Additional duties may be assigned by the Theatre/Dance Department Head.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • All applicants should have a terminal degree in Dance, MFA, or PhD

  • Teaching experience at a university and/or professional level.

  • Demonstrated ability to train, educate, motivate, and inspire students.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other faculty across disciplines

  • Effective communication skills.

RANK AND SALARY: Rank is at the Assistant Professor level and salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. $51,000 - $54,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Shall be credentialed and in good standing by relative credentialing agencies, if appropriate.

  • Shall be qualified to teach in the field of study.

  • Shall be effective in teaching the assigned subject material.

  • Shall meet the required standards defined by the University.

  • Shall be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling.

  • Shall have a minimum of 2 years' experience or equivalent in the practice of the area of study, or as required by accreditation agencies.

  • Shall hold a terminal degree in Dance or other appropriate field of study.
