University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill Director, Family Enterprise Center in NC-Chapel-Hill, United States

Employment Type: Permanent Staff (EHRA NF)

Vacancy ID: NF0008081

Position Summary/Description:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Family Enterprise Center ( FEC ) at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School was founded in 2008 in partnership with the nationally recognized Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Business School Dean Doug Shackelford served as the Center’s faculty champion. The FEC was created to address the needs of students, alumni, and families seeking educational resources and support for their family-owned firms in a service provider-free environment.

Each year since its founding, the Center has expanded its offerings to meet increased demand. The program has grown from one course offered to undergraduates in 2006 to a thriving Center that offers coursework, leadership roundtables, club activities, mentor opportunities, alumni peer groups, a digital teaching series, and an annual conference. To date, over 1,000 students from around the world have participated in the Center’s coursework and programs.

The FEC has been funded through the generosity of donors, the support of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and several revenue-generating programs created by the Center. In June 2019, the FEC received a major gift that will allow for sustainability and growth of programs. This gift provides an opportunity to expand the Center’s team and to create additional offerings aimed at helping family firms acquire the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to achieve business, family, and personal goals.

The Director, Family Enterprise Center, will be responsible for envisioning and executing the next phase of the Center’s growth, building upon the deep trust and goodwill that exists with current students and alumni.

The Director position will:

  • Create awareness about the Center with external audiences.

  • Raise visibility of the Center by representing the FEC at conferences and key industry events.

  • Recruit and engage thought leaders to deliver programs and research initiatives.

  • Manage the Center’s Board of Advisors, co-founders, and full-time staff of the Center.

The Director reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and indirectly to the Center’s Board of Advisors.
