Position Summary/Description:

The UNC School of Education is currently seeking a UNC -Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Social Worker. The position is a ten-month, full-time, non-teaching position for the School of Education available August 1, 2024. The social worker reports to the Carolina Community Academy Principal.

As a member of the Carolina Community Academy team, the school social worker will foster a culture of innovation that supports effective practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the Academy..The social worker will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative programs to achieve the mission of the school. The school social worker will work collaboratively with the Carolina Community Academy Principal, UNC Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy liaison, and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within the Academy.

Education and Experience:

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in innovative and diverse schools with a track record of improving student outcomes for all subgroups. Graduates of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill social work programs are preferred. A minimum of 3 years experience is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience promoting social emotional learning in schools and providing school social work services across school, home, and community contexts for students and families of diverse backgrounds and racial/ethnic identities. The individual should be: self-directed; organized with attention to detail; innovation and outcome oriented; technologically proficient across multiple platforms; possess strong interpersonal relationship skills including collaboration with diverse individuals; highly motivated and receptive to innovative practices/procedures; willing to take the initiative to learn the duties/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the lab school; and willing to work alone or as a group/team when necessary.
