Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Process/Project Manager for the department of Communications and Public Affairs at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.Under the direction of the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, is responsible for managing the public relations, media, and publications functions to facilitate the overall communications' effort for Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The process/project manager, public relations, is a strong creative writer and storyteller who is skilled at sharing content on multiple platforms and provides support in implementing comprehensive communications and marketing strategies, programs, and activities that increase awareness of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the related clinical enterprise of its health system partner, RWJ Barnabas Health (RWJBH), with all constituencies. Responsibilities include a wide variety of communication support across all mission areas.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Manages the media function of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School to include conceptualizing story ideas, writing and pitching news releases, responding to and the recording of media inquiries.
  • Positions Robert Wood Johnson Medical School faculty members and associated clinical providers as experts to the media, working with Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm), University Communications and Marketing (UCM)/Rutgers Today, and the Strategic Marketing and Communications division of RWJBH.
  • Serves as an active team member in support of growth strategies, plans and annual goals developed by the school and health system to enhance the clinical enterprise and associated service lines.
  • Creates and produces communication vehicles for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and in support of the clinical enterprise of RWJBH. Provides written content as well as editing for the newsletter, magazine, website, and other publications related to the medical school and the associated clinical enterprise of the health system. Interviews faculty and other medical group providers, students, and staff to ascertain communication needs and provide support in terms of print and digital materials that contribute to an overall integrated communications plan.
  • Responsible for the production of Robert Wood Johnson Medicine, the medical school's magazine for alumni and friends. Includes identifying story content, assigning stories to freelance writers, writing articles and/or regular sections, such as Research and Alumni News. Coordinates editing, photography, design, printing and mailing with vendors.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field, plus at least a minimum of five (5) years of previous experience in healthcare or higher education marketing, writing for publication (e.g., journalism experience), public relations, layout and design.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in goal setting, project planning, layout and design, and organizational skills; and the capacity for managing and prioritizing multiple projects under tight deadlines is necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are a must.
  • The candidate must be proficient in Quark Express or Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Canva, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Social Media Platforms.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment.
