General Description

The IT Multimedia Design Specialist (Academic Technology Specialist) plays a pivotal role in advancing digital learning and instructional design strategies to optimize teaching and learning outcomes across diverse modalities. This individual will spearhead efforts to integrate innovative technologies, promote accessibility, and ensure the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) are embedded throughout instructional materials and programs. The ideal candidate will be proactive, innovative, and adept at managing complex projects while collaborating closely with faculty and stakeholders to enhance student engagement and success at Hostos Community College.

Other Duties

  • Guidance and Support: Provide comprehensive guidance and support to faculty across all disciplines in the effective integration of academic technologies to enhance instruction and student engagement across various modalities.

  • Interactive Learning Experiences: Develop engaging and interactive learning experiences utilizing multimedia tools and technologies to address the diverse educational needs of faculty and students.

  • Accessibility and UDL: Develop educational programs and instructional materials prioritizing accessibility and adhering to UDL principles, ensuring inclusivity and equity in the learning experience.

  • Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional resources and training programs, providing recommendations for continuous improvement to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with academic departments and programs to develop and enhance instructional design resources and services, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.

  • Professional Development: Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in instructional design and learning technologies, integrating emerging practices to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

    Qualifications

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with educational policies and laws, including FERPA, TEACH Act, and Copyright and Fair Use, ensuring compliance in instructional materials and programs.

  • Resourcefulness: Ability to leverage available resources to find innovative solutions and deliver exceptional customer service to faculty and stakeholders.

  • Effective Communication: Demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Design Acumen: Design instructional materials with a keen eye for user experience, incorporating principles of effective design and usability.

  • Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with social media and digital communication platforms, as well as knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress, is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional design and development; a master's degree is preferred but not required.
