Description

Amazon Publishing is seeking an innovative, passionate, market-savvy Acquisitions Editor with a focus on romance novels for the Montlake imprint. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with high judgement, exceptional communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, strong editorial and project management experience, and established industry relationships. You will be responsible for discovering and acquiring exceptional content, managing author and agent relationships, and collaborating with marketing, publicity, production, design, author relations, and IP teams to deliver quality books and world-class author experiences. This is a multi-faceted job in a fast-paced, high productivity environment that requires flexibility, forward-thinking, and a sense of humor. Position is based in Seattle office with possibility of New York office for the right candidate.

Key job responsibilities

Identify, evaluate, and develop submissions, projects, and proposals to acquire primarily for Montlake, including:

  • Monitoring trend and sales data with keen eye for romance and commercial fiction

  • Working closely with authors to develop their work and careers

  • Working closely with internal teams to shepherd work from manuscript through publication and beyond

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with literary agents

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong track record of discovering, developing, and publishing bestselling titles and authors

  • Strong negotiation skills along with knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&Ls

  • Strong project management experience and ability to hit deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated analytical thinking paired with excellent editorial sensibility

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting

  • Fluent in all office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Salesforce

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad list of agent contacts

  • 5+ years of content acquisition and/or content development experience preferred

  • Familiarity with ETL, SQL, handling/analyzing data a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $63,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $153,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
