The anticipated salary range for this role is between $137,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Cyber Exercises Vice President is responsible for executing a Cyber Resilience Exercise Program which will continuously strengthen SMBC readiness to deliver critical business services during a cyber-attack.

Reporting into the Information Security, Cyber Resilience office, the Cyber Exercise Program Vice President supports the 1st Line of Defense (LOD) Information Security Group Department Americas Division’s (GPDAD) and 14 group companies managing activities related to cyber resilience exercising in accordance with applicable regulations, Head Office policies and industry practices for Information Security Resilience. Leading the Americas division activities, this role will collaborate and coordinate cyber exercising across SMBC AD, EMEA and APAC regions.

Role Objectives

Cyber Exercising - Responsible for developing and facilitating cyber security exercising to include:

  • Manages the end-to-end cyber exercise process.

  • Coordinate annual SMBC cyber security exercising with SMBC global regions.

  • Manage consolidated cyber security exercise calendar.

  • Facilitates multiple forms of exercising such as workshop, tabletop, and functional exercises.

  • Partner with Operational Resilience Offices on cyber exercising of important business services and mapping activities.

  • Validates incident response playbooks & cyber incident management coordination.

  • Guide exercise participants to explore the impact of cyber incidents to identify business & technology dependencies and develop areas of improvement and mitigation activities.

  • Partner with Cyber Incident Management office to strengthen knowledge of impacts and plans associated with resilience of cyber threats and risks.

  • Understand changes related to regulatory, new product/initiative, processes, controls, events, issues, etc., in the IT, data management, and cybersecurity domains that may impact the operational risk profile of the bank.

  • Provide cyber exercise reporting for the maturity of exercise participation across SMBC and group companies.

  • Facilitate SMBC participation in external and public/private cybersecurity exercising.

  • Facilitate SMBC 3rd party/critical vendor SMBC coordination exercising and participation in external vendor exercising.

  • Author cybersecurity exercise plans and coordinates meetings and collaboration to complete exercise plans and exercise day documentation.

  • Author cybersecurity After Action Reports and coordinates meetings and collaboration to complete reports and manage improvement activities.

  • Maintain inventory of exercise documentation.

  • Product after action improvement and exercise lifecycle reporting.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Well-versed in Cyber Exercising abilities to include scheduling, planning, execution, analysis, and enhancements to incident response and cyber risk practices with the ability to connect and align with the firm’s operational resilience processes and framework. Familiarity with HSEEP or CISA documentation and coordination activities.

  • 3+ years of direct work experience within the financial services industry with focus on cyber exercising as it relates to cyber threats.

  • BA/BS preferred.

  • BCI, CISSP, CCRP, CEH, GIAC, or other Cyber Incident Response certifications preferred.

  • Working knowledge of technology and cyber risk management process and controls, industry practices, and frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, ISO 27001).

  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to question the status quo and apply resilience activities to enhance capabilities, as appropriate.

  • Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple, concurrent priorities and team members as the program is built out.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a matrixed environment and across various organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important at all levels.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Foundational knowledge of banking laws and regulations. (FFIEC, BCBS, FCA, NYDFS500, etc.)

  • Strong desire to continually deliver a quality and meaningful work product in a timely and efficient manner.
