JOB TITLE: Deputy Director – Lease Accounting
SALARY RANGE: $150,000 - $160,000

LOCATION: 2 Broadway, New York NY, 10004
HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)
DEADLINE: Open until filled
This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.
SUMMARY :
This position is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for MTA and all agencies’ leases (lessor & lessee) in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB specifically GASB Statement No. 87 – Leases.
Duties include all activities related to the proper accounting and financial reporting of leases in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), primarily GASB No. 87 – Leases including:
Technical guidance, interpretation, and compliance with GASB 87 - Leases
Responsible Policies & Procedures
Monthly Lease Accounting Transaction Activities
Lease Reporting & Disclosures
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
Duties include all activities related to the proper accounting and financial reporting of leases in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB 87 - Leases). Responsible for compliance for both the Lessee and Lessor contracts and modification and amendments.
Process and procedures for Lease Accounting Transaction Activities includes coordination with procurement, business operations, MTA Real Estate, IT for MTA and Yardi systems.
Provides the technical expertise and research for lease transactions. Point of contact for the outside auditors
Compliance with the accounting standard and compliance reviews of all lease transactions (both lessee and lessor.
Functional use of the Yardi system to extract information from the be used in preparation of financial reports and disclosures.
Special projects regarding fixed assets and inventory.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership skills to effectively direct and motivate staff.
Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
Excellent quantitative, analytic, and deductive reasoning capabilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Hyperion or comparable applications.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong ability to adhere to deadlines to ensure accurate and efficient reporting of data.
In-depth knowledge of accounting regulations and thorough knowledge of accounting practices.
Ability to monitor and manage results against audit and control procedures.
Knowledge of database design as it relates to financial systems.
Working knowledge of an automated financial system.
Self-starter with ability to learn and document financial and operational processes without supervision.
Ability to succeed in a fast paced / high pressure environment.
Ability to understand and interpret contracts to manage financial compliance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting and/or finance or business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of Lease Accounting/Financing principles
Minimum ten (10) years managerial experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a general accounting
Minimum five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
PREFERRED
MBA or CPA
Public Accounting or related experience.
Experience working with contracts and purchase orders (financial compliance).
Experience in PeopleSoft and Yardi accounting software.
