The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant discount revenue. The Pricing team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

The Director of Global Planning and Forecasting is responsible for leading the Discount Rate (DR) planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis across the globe and providing data-driven analytical insights into the DR. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Global Pricing Infrastructure & Insights and will have considerable exposure to senior leaders in GMS, Finance and across the Blue Box.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead global and regional discount rate performance analysis and reporting, partnering and collaborating with regional pricing teams and Finance

  • Drive all global discount rate planning and forecasting processes, including Annual Plan and Long Range Plan

  • Provide insights into historical DR performance to inform Pricing strategies

  • Enhance globally aligned processes, policies and reporting for planning & analysis; build a flexible yet sustainable infrastructure to drive efficiencies

  • Manage reporting for Business Unit Scorecard and SOX certifications

  • Lead a team of three Managers and one Analyst

Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in finance/pricing related roles; planning & forecasting experience required

  • Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of financial data

  • Strategic thought leader with the ability to work through unstructured problems and develop clear action plans

  • Creative thinker who is willing to question traditional ways of doing things and develop new approaches to old challenges

  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills with the ability to influence others

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral -- with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented

  • Results driven with the ability to work under pressure, navigate through ambiguity, draw linkages and balance multiple priorities

  • Knowledge of TM1, Cornerstone, MIRA a plus

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred

Qualifications

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
