FirstService Residential Director of Client Financial Reporting in New York, New York

Job Overview:

The Director of Client Financial ReportingWorks closely with the VP of Client Accounting, Director of Shared Services, various Financial Management team members and Operational Executives and their teams throughout the organization.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assigned an Operational Team and be their point of contact between Accounting and Operations.
  • Go to Board meetings and/or calls with that team’s Clients.
  • Review on a sample basis of the monthly financial reporting for accuracy.
  • Assisting with and overseeing development of the annual budget / forecast for Financial Management, including periodic re-forecast and review with management.
  • Oversee all audit and internal control operations.
  • Act as liaison between internal audit, management, and external audit.
  • Address ad hoc accounting projects for your assigned team.

Controls

  • Creation and monitoring of Quality Control reports and KPI reports for Quality Control Team.
  • Design and execute tests of operating effectiveness for key internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Review and Maintenance and tracking of internal metrics utilized by senior management to track the progress of the monthly financial close across Condo/Coop division.
  • Continually improving existing processes and procedures.
  • Development and presentation of training materials on a quarterly basis to provide updates in reporting requirements and educate personnel across the division to further enhance and improve financial reporting deliverables.
  • Identify, evaluate and document issues.
  • Ensure control gaps are understood by process owners.

Perform the necessary year-end duties such as:

  • Assist with year-end close posting on each of the buildings’ financial accounts and include the annual reports in the year-end financials.
  • Produce the year-end refundable deposit schedule based upon the request from the auditor as needed while also overseeing the annual audit process for the entire portfolio including accommodating the auditor’s needs and requests in a timely manner.
  • Analysis of the reserve funding statuses based on the request from the Property Manager on each building in the portfolio.
  • Reallocate the reserves as per the Board approved reserve study.

People management:

  • Liaison between Financial Management and Boards on the day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Manages the various control sheets that are created to keep track of critical payments and major processes in place; Address Financial Analysts who aren’t complying with the expectation, following Financial Manager’s approval.
  • Provides ongoing training and coaching /mentoring to Financial Analyst Quality Control team, with focus on new staff.
  • Assist with overseeing of financial reporting & budgeting, Performing quality reviews.
  • Attend Financial related board meetings, upon request, on behalf of other Financial.
  • Analysts who need the support or are unavailable to attend themselves.
  • Leads by example with an emphasis on positive attitude, reliability, time management, strong work ethic, and performance excellence.

  • Cultivates an open team environment and seeks feedback.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the team through sharing best work practices and peer-to-peer coaching.
  • Prepared to Provide Financial Manager their evaluation on team members, in regard to performance and whether or not company standards for professionalism, attendance, and work performance are met. If expectations are not considered met, responsible for communicating to Financial Manager, timely.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university, CPA certification, MBA or related work experience is preferred.
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience as an Accountant in the property management industry or real estate fields, residential management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of assets, cash balance, and availability of funds for projects and cash flow management for capital improvements.
  • Excellent organization, motivation, leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking, complex problem solving, judgement and decision making ability.
  • Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and provide guidance to all employee and client levels.
  • A strong desire and ability to coach, mentor, and develop staff.
  • Must have previous experience in directly supervising one or more associates.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Proficiency researching the Internet.
  • Previous experience with financial and accounting programs and Yardi Voyager is a plus.
  • Must be able to keep up in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a cool, calm, and collected attitude.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently. Must be self-driven with the ability to identify, plan and prioritize projects and assignments and be able to hit important deadlines.

Compensation:

$160000 - $175000 / year
