Job Description:

This job is responsible for assisting with the recommendation process related to the buying, selling, or holding of financial securities and/or studying the role of government in the economy. Key responsibilities include performing financial and statistical analyses, conducting research, preparing reports, helping to originate, structuring and modeling transactions, and assessing market trends. Job expectations may include rotating through a specific product area or sector to gain exposure to the business.

The Aerospace and Defense team currently covers 32-listed companies across subsectors and adjacencies within the aerospace and defense sector including the commercial aircraft OEMs, defense prime contractors, the supply chain, defense services, “new” space, future air mobility plus several others. In addition to coverage of publicly traded companies, the team regularly vets a number of private companies for potential IPOs.

The candidate for the position should be intellectually curious and have a deep desire to learn and have an interest in Aerospace and Defense and the inner workings of US national security. Given the team’s large and growing coverage and fast pace nature of the aerospace and geopolical/national security information cycle, the candidate should also have some experience with financial modeling and quantitative analysis, as well as strong verbal communication and writing skills. The ideal candidate possesses experience inaerospace/defense/industrialresearch. Further, the candidate should possess experience with company modeling and have a passion for following the stock market.

The candidate will work alongside their Senior Analyst and Junior Analyst peers in all aspects, from idea generation to company meetings, including but not limited to the following:

  • Perform complex financial modeling & valuation work

  • Write regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch

  • Develop databases integral to our research product

  • Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment

  • Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes

  • Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies

  • Participate and contribute to client meetings and events

  • Attend meetings and interact with key opinion leaders

  • Closely follow and understand market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to analyst when traveling

  • Seek out new,value-added, and/orunusual sources of information

  • Leverage our robust network of industry contacts

  • Interact regularly with clients

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts analysis of financial data, news, and other information to identify opportunities and risks related to companies, industries, or financial instruments

  • Assists in structuring, pricing, and executing transactions to assist in developing financing solutions for existing and emerging companies

  • Attends to day-to-day sales, trading, and hedging transaction needs, responding to client inquiries, logs, and records data

  • Leads and/or supports the preparation of associated financial models and written reports, which can be complex and quantitative in nature

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (business, hard sciences or engineering degree preferred) or equivalent years of experience

  • Prior experience in investment banking and/or research (equity or credit, sell-side or buy-side) preferred

  • Prior experience in aerospace and defense or related experience preferred

  • The candidate MUST be able to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment

  • Major(s) and areas of academic excellence should include Accounting and Finance, specifically in financial modeling & valuation workor mathematics or engineering

  • Strong writing and spreadsheet skills. Must be an expert at MS Word and MS Excel

  • Must enjoy working in industry databases and websites, and doing desktop and field research

  • Along with Finance and Accounting financial modeling skills, should have strong understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics

  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal

  • Must have strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and a strong work ethic

  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment
