Citi’s US Personal Banking Unsecured Risk team manages consumer and commercial credit cards and lending products for the US Branded Cards and Retail Services businesses. The businesses serve nearly 110 million accounts comprised of Citi Proprietary and partner programs including Costco, American Airlines, Best Buy, Macy’s, and The Home Depot.

Integral to the success of U.S. Personal Banking is a strong and effective Risk Management team that allows us to serve our customers while protecting Citi’s interests.

Role Summary:

The USPB In-Business Credit Risk Head is seeking an experienced and dynamic executive leader to be the In-business Credit Risk Head for Citi Retail Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of risk strategy & execution including credit losses. This role partners with business leadership to navigate risk concerns and attain portfolio objectives. The Risk Head is accountable for leveraging the expertise of shared functions such as collections, governance, loss forecasting and risk systems to ensure the full needs of the business portfolio teams are met/exceeded. The individual serves as a member of the Risk Management Leadership Team and leads a team of both onshore and offshore resources.

In light of changing consumer expectations, the evolving retail paradigm, and the rapid emergence of non-traditional players in the payments space, Retail Services plays a key role in ensuring Citi’s position as the undisputed B2B2C point-of-sale lender of choice for our partners. This critical risk leadership role will be responsible for leading a best-in-class team that drives sustainable growth within Citi’s Risk Appetite, supported by the power of analytics, effective governance, customer focus, and strong partnerships across the enterprise. The incumbent will manage a suite of products including a white label credit card and an installment loan product, while maintaining and continuously improving a strong, forward-compatible risk management culture and control/compliance environment across the franchise.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Partnering with the Business Manager, cross-functional partners, and stakeholders to deliver sustained growth through prudent risk practices

  • Provide end-to-end portfolio risk management services to the Citi Retail Services Business Management team contributing to financial results

  • Leverage shared functions & centers of excellence to support portfolios ensuring: Safety and Soundness through implementation of credit and collections policies

  • Establish an appropriate risk appetite for portfolios leveraging shared function expertise and in partnership with Retail Services Management

  • Manage new and existing contract negotiations, influencing internally and externally at senior levels

  • Ability to leverage advanced analytics to establish new metrics and initiatives that maintain a leading edge in current economic and digital environment

  • Leading a best-in-class Risk team accountable for all related risk categories (credit, operational, etc.)

  • Delivery of strategic initiatives and management of new and emerging risks

  • Ensuring a consistent and strong control environment

  • Represent Risk Management at regular executive and committee meetings

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant risk management or financial services experience required

  • 7+ years of people management experience, including experience as a manager of managers

  • Knowledge of card P&L dynamics and the interaction of consumer behaviors, product configuration and the macroeconomic environment

  • Demonstrated experience in leading change, with a track record of identifying and implementing opportunities to improve business operations and performance

  • Demonstrated success in managing partner relationships

  • Working knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations that govern lending in a large financial institution

  • Education Level: Bachelor's Degree, MBA/MS preferred in risk management, finance, engineering, mathematics, or statistics
