Location: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004 or other locations as required

Hours of Work: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (7.5 work hours/day) or various as required

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY

The MTA Internal Communications department is responsible for delivering accurate and timely information to more than 70,000 MTA employees across the MTA.

We are hiring for an Internal Communications Liaison to support our operating and administrative / IT business partners in developing strategic communication plans, content, and distribution channels to deliver important information and programs to relevant employee audiences.

This role serves as the daily point of contact to our internal business partners, working to understand their communication priorities and unique employee audiences and ensure messages and programs are aligned with the broader MTA communications strategy, including, but not limited to, prioritization of message, editorial and design standards, timing, delivery channel, and more.

This role is essential to provide continuity and optimal customer service to our internal business partners. The purpose and responsibilities of this role directly align with MTA’s strategic priority to revive talent and culture.

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Serve as point of contact and strategic business partner to MTA operating agencies and departments including NYCT, MNR, LIRR, and administrative departments including IT, People, BSC, ERGs.

  • Develop strategies to effectively communicate internal information and programs through various formats (messages, presentations, graphics, bulletins, website content, videos, etc.) and across appropriate employee-facing channels, including Going Places Newsletter, MTA Today, MTA TV, and others.

  • Create, and support the creation of, internal news stories, employee profiles, presentations, scripts, graphics, videos, websites, newsletters, and additional content.

  • Manage internal communications channels including posting content and troubleshooting on MTA Today (intranet), MTA TV (internal TV screens), Marketing Cloud (email distribution system), IT Service Alerts (ServiceNow) and others.

  • Maintain MTA-wide internal calendar of information and events to ensure regular employee-relevant content is developed and executed, deadlines are met, messages and themes are aligned with what’s happening throughout the MTA.

  • Oversee multiple shared email inboxes and respond to questions and feedback from employees, routing as appropriate, to ensure employees have access to information and timely response.

  • Additional assignments as requested.

  • Must be accessible and may need to work outside of normal work hours in the event of major announcement or initiative (i.e., evenings and weekends)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILTIES

    Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with communication strategy, content creation, channel management, and communication best practices.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with technology industry terms and processes.

  • Experience working with content management systems, WordPress web development software, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud email marketing platform.

  • Experience working with graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Figma, others).

  • An eye for video and knowing how to shoot and edit is a plus.

  • Proficiency in using data tools, including Google Analytics, for reporting and decision-making.

  • Proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience in a transportation, operations, or manufacturing environment preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with MTA’s transportation services, agency structure, processes, and procedures preferred.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, marketing or related field from an accredited college or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, preferably within an MTA agency or similar environments.

    COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be extremely disciplined, organized, and detail oriented.

  • Able to manage multiple projects and work at pace and to timelines.

  • Must have excellent writing, editing, and communication skills to address different employee audiences.

  • Must be solutions oriented.

  • Strong understanding of communications practices and channels that are both informative, creative and that engage the audience.

  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all levels within the MTA.
