LOCATION : 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004

HOURS OF WORK : 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY :

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the general ledger accounting close processes for the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) and Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority (SIRTOA). This position will be preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations and variance analysis. In addition, this position will support the preparation of financial reporting and support the financial statement audits.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Ensure general ledger accounts are analyzed and reconciled on a timely basis. Coordinates with operating departments to obtain support of general ledger accounts and transactions. Maintain a copy of all reconciliations in an organized manner along with a log summarizing the status of the analysis/ reconciliations. Highlight and work to resolve outstanding reconciling items.

  • Coordinate with other departments to provide explanations to monthly/quarterly account variances.

  • Support the monthly close by preparing journal entries with adequate support. Review the health and welfare transaction journals. Run and reconcile reports.

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of FTA’s NTD reporting.

  • Provide support in the preparation of year-end financial statements for NYCTA and SIRTOA.

  • Provide information and documents requested for external and internal audits.

  • Process monthly settlement/payment of inter-agency balances with all agencies.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned, including the implementation of new accounting standards and other new reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum 5 years related experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience with financial systems.

    PREFERRED

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college and/or CPA Certification.

  • At least 3 years in a managerial and/or leadership role.

  • Experience with Peoplesoft Finance Modules.

  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
