The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs, the program manager is responsible for providing a wide range of student, faculty, and managerial support. The Program Manager plays a key role in the support and administration for the Undergraduate Programs as well as support for K-12 and continuing education programs at the Climate School.

Responsibilities

  • Program Administration:
    • The Program Manager is responsible for supporting the administration of undergraduate academic programs, which includes: maintaining and updating program data and student progress, managing student/alumni database, auditing major requirements, and organizing committees and faculty meetings.
    • Supports course management academic courses, which includes: overseeing student registration, assisting faculty with administrative needs as they relate to courses and navigating the university, managing multiple application processes and deadlines (field-based courses, TA hires, etc.), and ensuring the program website and University Bulletin are up to date with courses and events.
  • Communications and Event Planning:
    • With assistance from office interns, the Program Manager will facilitate program communication, which includes: maintaining student listservs, overseeing distribution of weekly newsletter, managing the Office of Undergraduate Programs website, and supporting social media presence.
    • Responsible for coordination of student events, which includes: advertising events, reserving appropriate space, ordering food and supplies, receiving deliveries, and managing day of event activities (i.e., set-up, clean-up, etc.)
  • Academic Affairs Cross Program Support:
    • Works with both the Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs and Senior Director of Academic Programs to develop links, synergies across all programs at the Climate School including graduate education.
    • Academic Affairs: with support and leadership from the Senior Director, works across programs at the Climate School on various projects, initiatives and efforts to both integrate undergraduate programming and to launch new master's programs in fall 2025.
  • K-12 and Continuing Education:
    • With support from the Assistant Director of K-12 and Continuing Education, the Program Manager will assist with K-12 and continuing education initiatives, which includes: coordinating and facilitating K-12 virtual sessions and collaborating with individuals and centers across Columbia University to help broaden K-12 resources, programming, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Once goals, procedures and parameters are established in regular weekly supervision, must be able to work independently.
  • Must be knowledgeable and adept in working in Microsoft Office programs with a focus on Word and Excel.
  • Must have a strong customer-service orientation and demonstrate a high degree of tact, discretion, and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's preferred.
  • Commitment to sustainability and addressing climate change is desirable.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have familiarity/experience in higher education, and an interest in environmental, climate and/or sustainability issues. Experience with social media campaigns/outreach is a plus.

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate will be an outgoing self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills, as a large part of the job requires interacting with and advising students, and supporting faculty.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, financial management, and written/oral communication skills are essential.
  • Must be extremely detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects with ease, while maintaining quality and accuracy, and adhering to set deadlines.
