$93,473 - $132,672 (Grade D - 594 pts)

Compression Rate: $128,500

Responsibilities:

The Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent is responsible for performing rail incident/accident investigations meeting New York State Public Transportation Safety Board (PTSB), Federal Transportation Agency (FTA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) criteria. Such investigations may include, but are not limited to, those related to employee fatalities, derailments, and collisions, on a 24/7, 365 day per year basis. The selected candidate acts as the liaison to Federal and State oversight agencies and is required to make timely notification to these parties of criteria events. Additionally, the incumbent will also investigate serious high-profile incidents such as customer fatalities, side door drags, as well as near miss incidents. The Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent is responsible for the preparation of comprehensive incident/accident reports involving all aspects of Department of Subways (DOS) activities including, but not limited to, personnel, training, operations, maintenance, and repair activities. The incumbent will utilize investigations and report preparation to determine causal and contributing factors and to recommend corrective actions in order to eliminate or reduce the potential for future incidents/accidents, ensuring the safety of our customers, employees and infrastructure. The Rapid Transit Investigations Superintendent will provide technical advice on DOS related matters and advises Senior Management on safety related practices in the area.

Education and Experience:

  1. A minimum of five (5) years satisfactory experience in the Division of Track, Signals, Car Equipment or Rapid Transit Operations

  2. A minimum of two (2) of a supervisory or managerial position.

    Desired Skills:

    · A Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or a related field

    · Knowledge of NYCT rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

    · Knowledge of investigative skills

    · Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    · Computer literacy

    · Knowledge of safety practices and Federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations.

    · A valid Driver’s license.

    · Demonstrated understanding of NYC Transit Equipment, technical standards, operations, and organization is required

    · Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of accident/incident investigation technique, policies, and procedures.

    Selection Method:
