THE ROLE: Senior Database Administrator (DBA)

Job Summary:

As an internal Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with Presidio, you will possess a strong background in projects, production support, and extensive experience in Azure migrations and optimization. You will have a proven track record of successfully migrating on-premises databases to Azure, optimizing Azure database performance, and ensuring the stability and reliability of production database systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team and play a key role in driving our Azure migration initiatives and optimizing database performance across our organization.

Travel Requirements:

This is a remote position. This position does not require any travel except for any annual team meetings which will average 10% or less.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage on-premises database environments including day-to-day support, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Lead and execute end-to-end database migration projects from on-premises environments to Azure, ensuring successful migration with minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, design migration strategies, and implement best practices for Azure database deployments.
  • Provide expert guidance and technical support to ensure the smooth operation of production databases hosted on Azure, including troubleshooting performance issues, resolving incidents, and implementing proactive monitoring and alerting solutions.
  • Conduct performance tuning and optimization activities to improve the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of Azure SQL databases, utilizing techniques such as query optimization, index tuning, and resource utilization analysis.
  • Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions for Azure databases, including configuration of failover clustering, geo-replication, and backup/restore strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in Azure database services, continuously evaluating and recommending new tools and features to enhance the performance, security, and cost-effectiveness of our database environments.
  • Document migration processes, configurations, and best practices, and provide training and knowledge transfer to junior team members to ensure a well-equipped and knowledgeable team.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience in leading database migration projects, including planning, execution, and post-migration support.
  • Proficiency in Azure services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Storage.
  • In-depth knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques, with a proven ability to analyze and improve database performance.
  • Solid understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and security principles in Azure cloud environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are a plus

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent work experience and/or military experience
  • 10+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.
