KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated research staff associate in the laboratories of Drs. Porotto and Moscona in the Division of Critical Care Medicine. The individual will join a diverse group in The Center for Human Host Pathogen Interactions.

The Staff Associate primary responsibilities are but not limited to:

  1. Contributing to projects on several viruses, specifically focused on mechanisms of entry and membrane fusion medicated by measles, parainfluenza virus, and SARS-CoV-2.
  2. Assessing various strategies for inhibiting entry of enveloped viruses.
  3. Training individuals who join the lab in the methods and approaches used in the group.
  4. Preparing written reports of experiments, results, and preparing figures of publication-ready quality.
  5. Communicating with Drs. Porotto and Moscona and other lab members as well as collaborating groups about ongoing projects.
  6. Contributing as needed to preparation of publications.
  7. Any other related research duties as assigned, including necessary laboratory maintenance tasks.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have a Master's degree in specific research field and/or 4 years of experience.

2. Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines;

3. The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions.

4. The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.
