The Hillman Lab in the Zuckerman Institute at Columbia University seeks a flexible and highly motivated individual to serve as a Staff Associate I. The Staff Associate I will support the PI in using in-vivo optical imaging and microscopy methods in small animals to investigate brain physiology and the relationship between neuronal activity and behavior.

Situated in the Jerome L. Working closely with trainees and staff in the lab, and reporting directly to the Principal Investigator, the Staff Associate I will perform non-survival and aseptic survival surgeries and related preparations, and will be expected to assist with and independently perform data collection and analysis on resulting behavioral and imaging data. The Staff Associate I will also be responsible for animal husbandry and mouse colony management, maintaining animal protocols and laboratory compliance. They will also perform laboratory administrative tasks including documentation and ordering supplies and equipment for the lab. Duties and responsibilities of the Staff Associate I include:

  • Responsible for animal husbandry and mouse colony management
  • Perform non-survival and aseptic survival surgeries
  • Perform data collection and analysis on basic behavioral and imaging data
  • Assist with administration and documentation of tasks related to experiments and ordering supplies and equipment for the lab

The Staff Associate I must possess wet lab experience working with rodent models, stereotaxic surgery, and in-vivo data collection. They must also have technical skills, including the use of customized imaging systems and a familiarity with data analysis. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.


Staff Associate I Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biomedical engineering, or other related area of science or engineering is required.
  • 1-3 years of research experience is required, 4 years is preferred.
