The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate I in New York, New York

The Simunovic Laboratory at Columbia University, located on the Columbia Medical Campus, is seeking one or more Staff Associates (SA) to support experimental research efforts as well as to assist the PI with basic managerial and administrative duties. The SA will work closely with the PI and other scientists in the lab and participate in challenging, innovative, and dynamic research projects. They will perform routine experimental and analytical lab techniques. The work in the lab employs advanced tissue culture and mammalian stem cell biology, tissue engineering, single-cell genomic profiling, and molecular biology techniques. Responsibilities will include designing and performing experiments, assisting in basic lab maintenance, coordinating tissue culture training, maintaining a clear, organized, up to date notebook, presenting work at laboratory meetings and conferences, attending lectures and other enriching experiences at Columbia and at meetings. Given that the research is heavily based on tissue culture, the SA is expected to work on a flexible schedule and when needed carry out routine cell culture maintenance on weekends. The SA will be fully immersed in research and other enriching lab activities, receive mentorship from the PI and scientists in the lab, and support in developing their careers. SA will also perform basic managerial tasks,including but not limited to ordering of lab supplies, help in managing the lab's finances, and assist the PI.


Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering (or closely related field).

Two years of professional research experience

Must be able to troubleshoot complex instrumentation and maintain accurate documentation of experiments.
