The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate I in New York, New York

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center an enthusiastic technician to assist with sample processing, performing lab tests, confirming data, and other logistical laboratory testing support. The SA1 will also be required to recruit and consent volunteers, and screen subjects. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, have excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, and be able to multi-task while maintaining precision and quickness.

Job Function:

  • 40% - Collecting, processing, and running samples
  • 40% - Recording/analyzing data
  • 15% - General lab maintenance
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned

Lab Mission/Purpose:

The mission of CALM is to serve as a bridge between researchers and the hospital clinical laboratory and support clinical laboratory study needs across the institution. Our services include sample procurement, laboratory testing, new assay validation, new instrument validation and FDA device approval studies, sample processing, shipping, handling, storage, phlebotomy and data management.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree 4 years of laboratory research experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior lab experience is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with colleagues and outside personnel
  • Impeccable record keeping skills, compatible with a clinical operation
  • Ability to work in teams, good interpersonal skills
