The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Established in July 2022, Columbia Global (CG) brings together major initiatives from across the university to advance knowledge and foster global engagement to address complex global challenges. Through interdisciplinary research, education, collaboration, and directed action, Columbia Global fosters groundbreaking scholarship, facilitates leadership development, advances cutting-edge thinking, and implements projects designed for social impact.

The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team has established an organization-wide system for monitoring the outputs and outcomes of Columbia Global's work to ensure that impact is and remains front and center. The MEL team also conducts evaluations of programs that demonstrate strategic value to the organization, with a focus on measuring impact and generating recommendations.

The Student Research Worker will play a role in ensuring that data is collected, analyzed, and reported in a timely manner, enabling course correction and innovation across the organization. The Student Research Worker will work closely with the Director and Project Officer for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) to support the design of data collection tools (surveys, questionnaires, etc.), collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and draft reports about CG's programming. Through assisting in MEL activities, the Student Research Worker will help the MEL team identify promising innovations and areas of improvement in the educational, research, and social impact initiatives led by CG. This work will enable more effective communication of CG's impact and promote a culture of learning in the organization.

The Student Research Worker will be expected to work 15-20 hours per week in accordance to the department's hybrid work schedule. This position will be funded through June 30, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Draft reports for ongoing projects utilizing data from multiple sources to highlight impact and learnings using a results-based approach.
  • Review and analyze data from surveys and interviews to identify impact and share insights.
  • Support the development of data collection tools for the MEL team.
  • Interview participants for data collection purposes.
  • Assist in creating presentations of findings for various stakeholders.
  • Communicate key findings with CG staff and partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and enrollment in a Columbia University graduate degree program including, but not limited to, Public Health, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology and SIPA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting and analyzing research interviews.
  • Knowledge and experience conducting descriptive quantitative data analysis using Excel, SPSS, and/or STATA.
  • Experience in data visualization, specifically in Excel.
  • Knowledge of software for qualitative analysis (NVIvo, Atlas Ti).
  • Knowledge of MEL practices (such as logic frameworks, theories of change, etc.).
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proven ability to translate complex concepts into succinct, clear, accessible language for multiple audiences.
