Job Summary

Provide University leadership with a variety of space planning and management services. These include, but are not limited to:

A. Developing and maintaining an accurate space database inventory of all University-owned and leased facilities

B. Assisting Design & Construction, Facilities Management and other university customers with space-related issues (including maintaining a current and projected space needs assessment)

C. Developing space programs for renovations and new construction projects.

D. Maintaining an up to date database of buildings, floor plans and related construction documents

E. Maintaining up to date University space guidelines and policies.

F. Maintaining an up to date digital library of all building studies, as-built plans, site plans, studies, pictures, etc. for use throughout the University.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education or Training: Masters degree in architecture, planning, construction management or a related discipline; and/or other credentialed training in the field of space planning and management. Or a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, planning, construction management or a related discipline; and/or other credentialed training in the field of space planning and management; and work experience equivalent to a master’s degree in the preceding fields of study.

Extensive knowledge of space management policies, procedures, practices and terminology.

Considerable knowledge of blueprint reading, architecture, construction, and facilities planning.

Considerable knowledge of policy development.

Working knowledge of architecture including architectural drafting, building space layout and efficient design, and basic building systems and types.

Excellent skills in the following areas:

a. Presenting complex ideas clearly, effectively and persuasively utilizing both written and verbal communications skills

b. Analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills

c. Facilitation skills

d. Customer services skills when serving diverse customers

Ability to develop as-built drawings from actual conditions that may involve climbing or crawling and measuring dimensions.

Ability to prepare technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to establish rapport and interact effectively with diverse populations including faculty, staff, administrators, colleagues, partner organizations and the general public.

Ability to effectively utilize appropriate computer software to meet daily operational needs and to develop reports related to the space management function. Such software shall include but not necessarily be limited to:

a. Microsoft Office, with in depth skills in PowerPoint, Excel and Access

b. Computer Aided Design ( CAD )

c. Adobe Photoshop, CS5 or later version

Special licenses, registration or certification: Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Level and type of experience: Considerable experience working in architecture, space planning/ management or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive years in active space planning/ management.

Working knowledge of college/university academic and support area space standards and requirements.

Considerable experience and capacity to work with other specialized software that support graphic design and database management
