What you will do:

The Production Technician will work on the Norman Modification Center team that is part of the Ducted Systems Group (UPG) for Johnson Controls. This position will is located in the Norman, OK plant and will report to the Norman Modification Center Director of Operations. In this division we design, test, manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the commercial HVAC market.

How you will do it:

  • Perform Modifications on commercial HVAC equipment

  • Operate CNC turret, Hydraulic press brake and shear, machine tools, welder, sheet metal and copper tube fabrication equipment.

  • Operate forklift and crane.

  • Works with precision and materials of all types such as: metals, wood and plastic.

  • Develops tools and fixtures to produce desired results.

  • Uses precision measuring instruments.

  • Ability to perform part layout work.

  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.

  • Other duties as required.

  • 2-year Technology degree and 2 years minimum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic understanding of HVAC equipment and component functionality

  • Good working knowledge of techniques and skills in areas of wiring, brazing, HVAC unit assembly.

  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches/blueprints/verbal instruction with minimal supervision.

  • Able to read wiring diagrams.

  • Basic understanding of power side electrical components and functionality in HVAC equipment.

  • Basic understanding of control side electrical components and functionality in HVAC equipment.

  • Experience with run testing HVAC equipment.

  • Ability to pass a forklift training certification course.

  • Ability to lift equipment: compressors, units, motors, sheet metal parts, etc.

  • Basic math skills.

  • High level of self-motivation and integrity.

  • Effective and professional communication and organizational skills are required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Outlook or other email programs.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision-making ability.

  • Experience with NC equipment (turret, shear, press brake) preferred.

  • Experience in welding (MIG, TIG, etc.) preferred.

  • Experience with CAD, Pro/E, Creo is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch.

  • Occasionally the employee is required to climb or balance.

  • Employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move from (5) five to (50) fifty pounds.

  • Anything over 50 lbs. requires physical or mechanical assistance.

  • Employee must be able to raise arms to chest level, above shoulder level and overhead.

  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms; use hands to fingers, handle or feel.

  • Must be able to talk and hear.
