ComEd serves 4 million customers across Northern Illinois. We manage more than 800 substations and 90,000 miles of power lines in an 11,400 square mile territory.
ComEd is leading the way to making the grid of the future. As stakeholders push to make the electric grid more resilient, reliable, and sustainable, ComEd is answering the call by installing innovative technologies like the first utility-operated microgrid cluster which helps support the integration of additional solar PV, developing standards to maximize the value of smart inverters, and support the penetration of electric vehicles including by the development and demonstration of a cyber-secure extreme fast charging (XFC) EV charging station.
Much of this work is done in the Smart Grid group, where engineers evaluate technologies from block chain to quantum computing, explain their research to audiences from ComEd executives to external stakeholders, and develop and demonstrate technologies using everything from an RTDS lab to the field. This work requires not only an advanced understanding of electrical engineering principles, but also the flexibility and imagination to see not just the world as it is, but imagine what could come next, and make it so.
Testing Group has close working relationships with all the Engineering Design departments. TG also interfaces daily with Operations (OCC/TSO), Project Management, Work Management, and Construction. TG supports and is supported by Planning, contractors, Training Dept. and Compliance Groups.
- Minimum: B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering
