Database Solutions Specialist SQL

Role purpose

We are seeking an experienced Database Solutions Specialist SQL to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, standardizing, maintaining, and administering Microsoft SQL Server databases. This role is crucial in ensuring the optimal performance, security, and availability of our databases to support our organizational goals and business needs.

Key responsibilities

Database Design and Implementation

Plan and execute installations, upgrades, and migrations including cloud ones. Standardize management to enhance system administration and operational efficiency. Collaborate with developers to design and optimize schemas, queries, and indexes.

System Administration

Enhance infrastructure for better performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Use monitoring tools to proactively address performance issues. Resolve bottlenecks and tune queries, indexes, and configurations.

Security and Compliance

Implement and maintain security best practices. Perform regular updates, patches, and security configurations. Minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.

Maintenance and Support

Provide support for database issues, including on-call support. Monitor growth and plan for future capacity. Optimize storage and resource usage. Offer technical support and troubleshooting for internal teams. Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Skills

Professional Experience

3-4 years of experience as a MS SQL Systems Administrator or in a similar role.

Technical Expertise

Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, administration, and performance tuning.

Experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and database security best practices. Proficiency in T-SQL and experience with database development. Experience in query tuning, index optimization, and performance troubleshooting.

Cloud Migrations and Centralizations:

Knowledge of cloud-based database services, architecture, and best practices for scalability and performance. Proven experience in migrating databases to cloud platforms or cetrnalizations. Ability to plan and execute database centralization projects.

Certifications and Additional Skills

ITIL Certification (highly desirable)

Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
