Co-lead the cross-agency Habitat Strategic Initiative Lead (HSIL) team (Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR)), to advance habitat protection and restoration in Puget Sound under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead the cross-agency HSIL team in collaboration with the WDFW Lead, which includes supervising senior planners and the grants management team.
  • Support a systems approach to Puget Sound habitat recovery in coordination and collaboration with partners, guided by the Puget Sound Action Agenda and the Implementation Strategies (Land Development and Cover, Shoreline Armoring, Floodplains and Estuaries, and Marine Vegetation).
  • Facilitate the Habitat Strategic Initiative Advisory Team (Habitat SIAT) to support the operationalization and implementation of the Habitat Implementation Strategies.
  • Oversee development and execution of Requests for Proposals to direct EPA Puget Sound Geographic Funds investments to support priority projects that will lead to the recovery of Puget Sound.
  • Communicate and provide policy-level coordination on Habitat Implementation Strategy activities with relevant state agency ongoing programs.
  • Communicate program and partner accomplishments toward the goals of the Habitat Implementation Strategies, emphasizing progress on cross-cutting issues such as climate change, environmental justice, land use, and marine water quality.
  • Support the management of the WDFW Cooperative Agreement with EPA and the DNR IAA with WDFW, ensure the implementation of the HSIL EPA work plan, and fulfill all reporting requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or above with a major emphasis in natural sciences, environmental, or natural resource planning, environmental law, public administration with an environmental emphasis, or a closely related field, AND three years of professional experience in these areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience leading an interdisciplinary team to achieve desired and productive outcomes.
  • Experience leading and facilitating large and diverse work groups including participants from multiple levels of government (local, state, and federal), tribes, NGOs, and industry.
  • Use of Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
