Financial Coordinator I - AdventHealth -

Work Hours/Shift: Full Time Monday – Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Performs and generates timely documentation of comprehensive financial assessment(s) which includes obtaining and verifying benefit and insurance information, transplant/VAD coverage prior to the start of the evaluation, assessment of the patient’s employment status, income, household expenses, disability, and/or other insurance coverage to determine areas of potential concern. One-on-one interviewing over the phone and/or in person to interpret benefits and other transplant financial information with recipients, donors and/or family members, formal presentation of patients at Patient Review Committee, and when necessary, negotiation of single case agreements with non-contracted health plans.

  • When “clearance” is not provided, the position is responsible for counseling and assisting patients with decisions regarding fundraising monies to meet clearance criteria, recommendations for insurance coverage, including COBRA, Social Security Disability, Marketplace and other options. Collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in establishing/documenting goals and treatment plans for the patient.

  • Participates with the initial patient orientation process and provides ongoing patient education on the transplant/VAD need. Provide patients with support and education surrounding insurance benefits issues on an ongoing basis (adhoc meetings, support groups, etc.).

  • Performs crisis intervention when financial issues arise post implant/transplant. This includes follow-up with patient in clinic or the bedside to assess financial needs/concerns, and make referrals as necessary. Participates in patient advocacy, resource brokering, and information and referral services. Serves as general advocate for patients and their families throughout the pre-and post-transplant process.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

Required:

  • Two years of experience in a complex healthcare setting with primary responsibility for service authorization, financial counseling, or as a transplant financial counselor

  • Knowledge of the benefit structures of major health care insurance carriers and Medicare plans, as they relate to the entire transplant process.

  • Knowledge of hospital and provider billing, health plan benefits limitations, policies, procedures and other applicable requirements and regulations of government and non-government payers or organizations.

  • Technical skills and aptitudes related to the insurance verification/authorization procedures or processes performed in department or work area assigned.

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma

  • Two years experience in transplant institute setting

  • Two years of post-secondary education in Management/Business or Health related fields

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Financial Coordinator I is responsible for interviewing potential transplant recipients, to fully assess the patients insurance coverage and obtain financial clearance to being the transplant work up. The position serves as a liaison between the hospitals, patient and third-party payers for all financial matters and secures necessary authorizations to ensure transplant related services are approved before proceeding with treatment. The Financial Coordinator I educate patients regarding their insurance coverage, and advises them of any financial responsibility they may have. Active participation is required in department staff meetings, campus or community programs. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
