About This Role

Carrier is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and experienced Strategic Sourcing Leader to lead its centralized $350M+ category consisting of outbound packaging. This role is a key part of the Global Supply Chain organization, reporting to the Global Head of Procurement. This leader is responsible for providing sustained competitive advantage in product cost, quality, and production flexibility across Carrier’s global footprint, and will be responsible for working across the business units, functions, and all global locations to develop and implement best-in-class purchasing strategies and procedures. With a global team, this leader will play a key role in driving transformation within Carrier’s procurement organization to provide the company significant savings, increasing productivity, managing inflation/deflation, and driving excellence in category strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages global category spend for approximately $350M.

  • Responsible for building short and long-term Packaging category strategy to ensure operational excellence and efficiencies are met

  • Establishes a cross-functional network and fosters collaboration with suppliers, wider supply chain organization, engineering, quality, and product management

  • Owns the vendor performance data and reports metrics to leadership

  • Develops and implements a category strategy which optimizes affordability, availability, agility, and innovation. Leverages understanding of similar industry, sourcing concepts, and Lean tools to ensure parts delivered on time at best cost and quality.

  • Manages external relationships with suppliers and assumes responsibility for all internal activities and decisions associated with Packaging category and suppliers, including contract negotiations, new products development, approved vendor list, RFX, re-sourcing, dual qualification, pricing changes, quality, and capacity.

  • Collaborate within the Global Strategic Sourcing team and across Product Management and Engineering to align on long-term strategy, technology roadmap, and risk mitigation

  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of respective global supply markets, competitors, and product innovations

  • Build and develop a team of Packaging experts to drive global performance

  • Establishes critical sourcing strategies; owns the purchasing activities of the company, ensuring continuous improvement.

  • Develops and implements mid- to long-term supply chain strategies and networks that address capacity issues, production location decisions, etc.

  • Partners with internal clients and stakeholders to identify sourcing needs and develops sourcing strategies to continuously improve and re-evaluate the purchasing activities of the company.

  • Directs supplier selection based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities and details of suppliers' reputation and history.

  • Directs negotiations, renegotiations and administration of contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.

  • Directs negotiations with suppliers and analyzes suppliers' operations to determine factors that affect prices and to determine lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years Strategic Sourcing experience in the Packaging category in an industrial environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a cross-functional global team to achieve results through leadership & influence

  • Proven ability to exercise business judgment to drive strategy and results

  • Ability to excel in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to lead analysis and resolution of complex problems where success requires the evaluation of both tangible and intangible variables

  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience with strategic sourcing and lean tools

  • Digital dexterity and ability to leverage data

  • Strong knowledge of supply chain strategy (development and execution) and category specific experience

  • Independently driven problem solver with appetite to address complex challenges in a fast-moving environment

  • Proven track record of successful leadership, negotiation, and strategic communication

  • Strong business acumen and experience collaborating across various levels within a diverse, global organization
