THE POSITION

Are you looking for a great opportunity to utilize your experience and knowledge to perform complex clerical work at an agency that stresses the importance of ethics, integrity, and accountability? If so, this is the position for you! This Clerical Assistant 3 position at the Office of State Inspector General (OSIG) performs detailed clerical work which supports our investigative programs. This position requires knowledge and application of Department of Human Services (DHS) and OSIG procedures and systems, call center experience, knowledge of various software packages, and the ability to exercise independent judgment throughout the course of its duties. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will conduct a wide-range of specialized duties such as answering customer calls on a multi-line wireless telephone system, transcribing and entering tips received through the welfare fraud tipline, and exercising comprehensive independent judgment in order to determine whether or not a tip should be forwarded to investigative staff or administratively closed due to insufficient information or lack of substance. This is a highly detail-oriented profession in which you will be responsible for thoroughly reviewing data to provide information and record requests, discussing and explaining claim computations, and initiating investigations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 8 days per month, based upon operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title); or

  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess at least two years of experience working in a call center environment.

  • You must adhere to the values and ethics of the OSIG.

  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.

  • You must have the ability to multi-task.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

    Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience analyzing electronic data and creating and/or manipulating Excel data spreadsheets

  • Experience working with Department of Human Services databases or systems such as CIS or ARRC

  • Customer Service experience

  • Experience handling and/or maintaining confidential information

  • Experience proofreading documents

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.

  • Due to Act 29, the agency the selected candidate will be serving has limited law enforcement powers and requires all employees with access to agency systems to undergo fingerprinting and an in-depth background check to include criminal, tax, and credit history.
